7.30 p.m. sharp on Wednesday evening, Taunusanalage Frankfurt: Several DFB shuttle cars stop at a side entrance in front of the posh Asian restaurant “Zenzakan”. Smartly dressed and guarded by three security men, the stars of the national team leave the cars and, led by Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (32), enter the restaurant in the basement via a staircase.
It’s the secret team evening of the new DFB squad. But one is missing: Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz (19)!
BILD knows: The midfield technician missed the descent at the team hotel “Melia Frankfurt City” by almost a quarter of an hour. Wirtz was later taken to the “Zenzakan” by special trip. BVB defender Nico Schlotterbeck (23) left the restaurant briefly to meet his colleague outside.
Wirtz left the restaurant next to Matthias Ginter (left).
Reason for the meeting: The new DFB squad should grow together again to form a solid team. Werder striker Niclas Füllkrug had already emphasized at noon: “Teams grow with successes, failures and memories.” The evening was planned by the team itself, and national coach Hansi Flick (58) and his staff were not there either.
